Do cruise lines really hire people of retirement age? I guess I always thought of cruise lines wanting young people on their ships. If they really do hire older people, it would truly be a great way to earn extra money. When your retired you have the extra time to go away like that. I think it’s a great idea. What would be the most common jobs on a ship, for older people? For instance, I’m 65 yrs old, what position could I fill on the ship?

      Hey Jim,

Yes they do hire retired people. Some areas that would be advantage to older workers would be like food prep, working in gift stores, bartending, working on technical issues, and even areas of cleaning and maintenance. They even have older people that give classes in certain areas

It certainly will be a complete change in someone’s life to do something like this.

Thanks so much for this very informative article. I’m at the stage in my life now that I have no real ties and am free to explore the world. What a better way to do that than by working on a cruise ship? I’m definitely going to check this out. I’ve tried applying to an agency, but they just rip you off. I’d rather go with advice with experienced cruise ship employees.

I think it is fantastic that you have the opportunity to explore other options when it comes to working and exploring the world at the same time. I think people get to a point in their lives and they realize that they are going to make some changes and also take some risks. I have to say, “why not”?
